The Shiba Inu Community is an online community of breed specific enthusiasts interested in collaborating with others for the good of the breed. Our goal is to help people interested in the breed seek out responsible breeders and learn to identify a well bred Shiba Inu. We share guides and resources from experienced breeders. A group for pet owners, show homes and responsible breeders. We support breed clubs, responsible breeders and Rescues.

BREEDERS AND RESCUES ONLY

It’s here! It’s finally here! We have created a database to put all sorts of information regarding Shiba Inu in one place in a massive collaboration by enthusiasts for the betterment of the breed.

We have now an interactive map for breeders and rescues to apply for members to find. It requires our approval once you have added yourself, we will strictly be looking into each and every application to make sure they are aligned with breeder ethics and/or making sure they are members of either the parent club or regional club. We will be verifying that rescues who apply are legitimate rescues.

Hello members! Although our primary group is on Facebook, we have now decided to open up a Discord server to make quicker communication available for members. I hope to see you there and please expect a lot of updates coming soon!

Hi friends! I just want to address this as more people join our group. We are an ethical/show breeder positive group. If you have an issue with ethical dog breeding in any capacity and voice it negatively towards said members in our group, you will be promptly removed and permanently banned.

If you are not happy about show breeders looking for a new home for a show prospect that did not turn out (or even an older adult that is ready to retire), keep your opinions to yourself or find the door. There is no room for this negativity in our group.

In a world where backyard breeders and puppy mills are churning out puppies from unhealthy parents, a very good breeder placing a young adult dog should be the least of your concern. Ethical show breeders are not the enemy, so please educate yourself.

Since good dog changed their rules to mark breeders who sell through their platform as most preferred breeders instead of ranking people by breed standard and health testing, it’s all backyard breeders all the way down the list. Actual “good breeders” are not ranking since they are not pumping out puppies for sale like a puppy mill.

These are people who are breeding off-standard not health tested dogs. What an absolute shame, how can they say the value responsible breeders and then rank up people based on how many puppies they produce and sell instead of what actually matters? All a breeder has to do is just check a box saying they are doing health testing and good dog will say “Breeder reports doing testing” – YOU need to be the one to verify that though.

Anyone on that website can say they health test, good dog doesn’t actually check, So you are still going to have to validate that information yourself if the breeder did not provide it on their breeding stocks profiles. So unless they provided documentation on their breeding stocks profile then those claims mean absolutely nothing.

Although i do list myself on good dog for exposure, it makes me extremely upset that respected breeders are being pushed to the end of the list because they are not hitting good dog’s quota of selling multiple puppies every 6 months on the platform – and instead i am seeing some of the most ill intentions, money hungry, lying and shady backyard breeders topping lists.

That doesn’t mean that there are not ANY good breeders on there, this website would still be a lot more reliable than a pet broker website which is purely irresponsibly bred dogs, but please always DO YOUR RESEARCH as many breeders listed on there are just pretending.

The chances of a responsible breeder today producing a pinto shiba, especially a heavily pinto shiba is slim to none. The same goes for saddleback/creeping tan. These recessive genes are purposely avoided as they can overtake a population. But today, Irresponsible breeders are advertising them as “Rare” colors. The truth is these markings are very easily spread in a genetic line, and because they can get so out of hand responsible breeders are careful about what they do.

Recently i found a website and IG profile that makes it out like this is a common occurrence even with responsible breeders and it simply is not. It is once in a blue moon that these recessives pops up in a responsible program and when it does that specific pairing is no longer continued.

Saying things like that causes people to dismiss very bright red flags when searching for breeders.

If you see a breeder breeding recessive colored parents and producing a lot of these off standard colors they are not responsible breeders.

There seems to be a recent issue floating around online where puppy mill brokers are pretending to be rescues by using keywords “adopt” and “rescues”

They are purchasing from puppy mills and selling for more (we use the term “flipping”), or selling for puppy mills and other backyard breeders under the guise of being a rescue. Really they are basically flipping dogs or pulling in sales for greeders.

There are also puppy peddling groups naming themselves “shiba inu for adoption” when it is NOT a rescue.. it is a puppy mill / broker / backyard breeder group.

And be wary on any online pages that seem to have a constant flow of just puppies available calling themselves rescues, likely they are just a sales broker. Most rescues have dogs of all ages.

How sad is it that some of the greeders responsible for homeless sheltered dogs are now trying to take the spotlight away from those dogs who need help to line their pockets by fooling people.
